I was thinking of giving you a firemans lift to La Fouly, but new I had to keep some in the legs for champex. I know all about dnfing at the TMB and its hard very hard!! especially twice, just ask Mike Mason, You will get round in 2010, Im coming back in 2010, so is Mike Mason and Jez Bragg. When you get round in 2010 it will be all the greater for dnfing now, imagine twice getting to Champex and dnfing then running round on your third time and passing Champex without a break feeling strong!!
Take care Andy
Mike Mason texted me when I was on the Summit of Col de Ferrat and said you where 13 mins ahead of me and I needed to catch you, I set off at a fast descent passing dozens of runners and found you by chance, so you helped me with my finish thank you, got me moving fast and gave me a purpose thank youJon Steelenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-761352019380357425.post-58844842685831445052009-09-06T21:11:05.164+01:002009-09-06T21:11:05.164+01:00Gutted for you Andy. I know you have a climbing past but reading your race report I couldn't help but be struck by the way you seemed to feel better as tyou descended, and worse as you headed up.

Great to spend some time in Cham with you though. You've clearly got a finish in you if you can get the nutrition right.
Graeme Rgraeme reidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17573554507582740305noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-761352019380357425.post-90991498539916858992009-09-05T10:57:28.597+01:002009-09-05T10:57:28.597+01:00Andy, I found it a really interesting account of y...Andy, I found it a really interesting account of your race experience. It sounds like an incredible event. Really sorry you didn't make it - hopefully next year will be the one. All the best. Thanks for sharing so honestly and clearly about the race and how it went.

I knew the ending but even so I could sense how well you started and paced yourself.

I know you will learn from this and come back stronger next year and you will conquer it.

Recover well and I look forward to catching up soon.

JohnJohn Kynastonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16436853872576303518noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-761352019380357425.post-44152951885983190882009-09-04T22:21:51.290+01:002009-09-04T22:21:51.290+01:00An honest report. I really felt your disappointment when you realized it was all over, especially after having stretches when you thought it was getting better and you were actually still on your target time. (As you know there is some DNF experience in our family too!)
Without having much ultra-experience myself (1 Devil finish does not seem to count on the UTMB scale), I would like to say that keeping your hydration up mainly with coffee and coke as you could not drink the electrolyte any more, will have ruined your stomach. As well as not giving you enough fluid either.
Rest and recover well. SilkeSilkehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16877208718356078413noreply@blogger.com
