I have to say that I was a bit concerned when you went through Rowardennan, as not only did you avoid the drop bag area as a number of others did, but you headed off in a different direction to all the other runners ! I even asked one of the marshalls if you'd gone the wrong way, but he said you were OK, and you obviously were.

DaveDavehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10245109160033422043noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-761352019380357425.post-80208149361175732432013-05-03T19:58:57.160+01:002013-05-03T19:58:57.160+01:00Great race Andy, really inspiring demonstration th...Great race Andy, really inspiring demonstration that a few grey hairs doesn't mean you getting slower. Given your year and year improvements I don't see any reason why you can't go faster next year.

I was surprised to read that you feel you followed Stuart Mills strategy of "run as fast as you an for as long as you can" as your splits don't suggest this. I'm currently preparing a blog article on splits from the Fling and the profile of splits is actually one of someone who held back in the first half and finished strong.

In your compare you splits against the average time for each of the splits, you were 2% slower than average to Drymen, 7% faster from Drymen to Rowardennan, 24% faster from Rowardennan to Benglais and 12% faster from Benglais to Tyndrum.

To me it looks like you took the first half relatively easy and pushed on from Rowardennan. If anything I think the section to Benglais you probably pushed on too much and suffered more in the final section home than you would have done otherwise. Perhaps doing the third section so fast made the final section feel like you went out too fast, but in reality it doesn't look you went out too fast at all.

Lorna McMillan's split % look more even, 0.7% slower, 7% faster, 19% faster and 19% faster for the four splits. The only big difference is that she ran the second half at a more even pace. The shape of Lorna's split % are actually pretty similar to the Lee Kemp's. To me they both ran very well paced races.

Once I've finished my analysis and written it all it should all be clearer. Might take me into next week though as lots of other things to keep myself occupied with.

Well done on a great race, and others mentioned this is great indicator for a quick WHW race.

Robert Osfieldhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16960356368117573952noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-761352019380357425.post-5212947479127825122013-05-03T18:33:15.545+01:002013-05-03T18:33:15.545+01:00Well done Andy.
